“Mr. Amidon, I know you’re busy, but do you have a minute?”

“Mr. Amidon, I know you’re busy, but do you have a minute?”  My least favorite phrase of all time.  Aren’t we all busy?  Don’t we all check one task off the list, only to add two more?  This has really been on my mind lately.  I do not want to be unapproachable, I want to be available for students, teachers, parents, etc.  I have a couple ideas that will, I hope, help dispel this myth.

I am going to intentionally make myself more available.  First idea is to have “Coffee with the Principal.”  Coffee with the Principal will be on every Faith Family day, starting next Wednesday, January 16th at 7:20am.  All of the parents are encouraged to meet with me in the middle school lobby over coffee and refreshments.  These conversations are intended to provide parents with an opportunity to hear the latest school information and have questions answered, etc.  More importantly, the purpose is to have a time of fellowship together.  The second idea is to have a mobile office.  The mobile office will allow me to spend more time in the hallways connecting with the students on a social level as well as spend more time, than I already do, in the classrooms with teachers and students where I can be more engaged in the learning process.  From now on, it’s “Mr. Amidon, do you have a minute?”
