Our New WiFi Video Camera will help tell our story

I have been thinking for quite some time on how to tell the story of our school’s campus one video clip or one picture at a time.  But my requirements for the video have been really tough to meet, so finding the solution has been difficult.  My requirements are HD video, high quality audio and ease in sharing to our community.  But I was never able to find the “perfect” solution.  Well, I think I have found that “perfect solution.”  I purchased, what I think is, the perfect video camera to meet my needs, Canon Vixia HF R30.  It is equipped with WiFi capabilities, that’s the key.  The challenge has never been finding a camera that shoots in high quality, it has been the WiFi feature.  The camera is able to wirelessly connect, through our school’s network, to a free app (Movie Uploader) on my iPad, an iPhone version is available too.  I will be able to take a video or a snap shot with the Canon and share it to either Facebook or my school’s new YouTube channel via the Movie Uploader app.

My hope to be able to walk around campus, capture neat moments and share them with our community immediately.  Our community will be able to either subscribe to our school’s YouTube channel or be alerted to the new videos via our school’s Twitter account.  The experiment will begin tomorrow.  I’ll keep you posted.

  1. Alright! Way to go Tyler! Did I ever show you my video? I have been showing it when I present at conferences. I also purchased a Kickstarter project from a guy that has invented an app for it. It will work, you know what you are doing.

  2. So today I ran into a snag. The filter blocked YouTube on my iPad. Because my iPad is not school issued and does not authenticate to the network it gets blocked. Hope to resolve that issue tomorrow.
